Malindi has maintained a big reputation for hospitality to strangers since the times of Vasco da Gama. It has most serene environment, and despite frequent travel advisories, which have had a hit on Malindi, a quick glance of some of the hotels, bars and restaurants, normalcy is written everywhere. Many is cosmopolitan, although others would say it is a slip towards cultural anonymity. Malindi's uniqueness sets it apart from Mombasa or Lamu. It has clinged on its rich Swahili characteristics that are exhibited by the old town in Shella; Giriama dances and cultural activities and the bustling of native kenyans from differents part of Kenya. Malindi has established itself as a base and stopover to attractions such as the Ruins of Gedi, Arabuko Sokoke Forest, Mida Creek & Boardwalk and a journey to the tranquil Lamu. On it's own, Malindi has inclined mostly towards beach tourism.
