I wasn’t born but was raised in Malindi. The few years that i was living outside Malindi (Mostly as a child), we visited Malindi quite often. The perfect holiday was one that included a short trip to Malindi. Being out of towners, getting a hotel room was a must. Apart from Ozi and Lamu hotels, the only hotel i could remember back in those days was Tana Hotel. Tana Hotel was our favourite “Five Star Hotel”. I wont speak for my younger brother, but for me it was heaven. We would check in at around 2 pm after a good meal at the restaurant, which was just downstairs. The journey was always bumpy and always made me hungry.
The shower is usually my first stop. I loved the smell of the small hotel soap. After a lengthy shower, i would go out on the balcony for a breath of the fresh air that blew from the ocean. For years, i never got tired of that view.
You must be wondering why i brought up memories of trips that happened over 20 years ago. Earlier this week, i got a change to visit one of the newest hotel establishments within Malindi Town. This establishment is Known as Young Safari Hotel. Young Safari Hotel is directly opposite Tana Hotel. As their guest, they took me through the facility and finally to the balcony. The balcony that had that amazing view. The view that lets you see from one end of Tana Street to the other end.
Young Safari Hotel
Located in the heart of the Malindi Town, Young Safari Hotel is the perfect hotel for people visiting the town on a low or medium budget. The hotel is just on the Stage of Lamu Bound buses and a minute to the Nairobi bound buses stage.
There are several hotels and cafes nearby, including Barani dishes, Manor cafe, Shakirin and Simba Dishes. Some of these restaurant operate 24 hours a day, you a guaranteed a hot meal any time of the day or night.
Just opposite of the bank is a chemist, bank, barbershop and Spice shop. All these are amenities that can come handy. For people coming form upcountry, spices can be a great present to carry home.
I do not want to talk much about the greatness of the location without mentioning the fairness in their prices. All rooms are elegantly designed and equipped with satellite premium Television and hot water showers. Surprisingly, the most expensive room is a little over Ksh. 1,500 per night.
